Why We Repost Some Tournaments / Scorecard Issues

Periodically, results for tournaments or the Wednesday league will be reposted with very different results from the original posted data.  Since we get inquiries as to why someone might have been in the money in the first posting and not in the reposting, I will try to explain some of the reasons for the changes.

1.             Player omission.  Sometimes a player has been inadvertently omitted from the tournament (misplaced scorecard, check-in error, human error {it happens, sorry}. etc).  Many times this one person can affect the tournament a lot.  So when we are contacted regarding the situation, we will rerun the whole tournament.

2.            Software problems.  To keep the SAC computed up to date on the current handicaps, we have to transfer all of the data from the EMGA computer (this is the only computer at Edinburgh USA that communicates with GHIN) into the SAC computer.  Sometimes this transfer is incomplete for whatever reason (only the computer Gods know) and the handicaps are incorrect.  This happened in the last tournament.  We didn’t catch it until someone noticed an incorrect handicap.

3.            Human error.  All scores are entered manually by different people.  Everyone does their best but errors do and will happen.  When we are advised of an error, we will correct it and sometimes this leads to a reposting of the whole tournament.

We always strive to post an accurate tournament and will continue to do so.  If you do feel a mistake has been made, please contact us ASAP so we can check on it and we will correct it if necessary.

SCORECARD ITEMS TO REMEMBER

1.            Please put LAST NAMES on the scorecard.  Scores are entered by different people and not everyone is readily identified by their first names.  Scorecards with no last names will be disqualified from tournaments.

2.            Please enter the scores clearly on one scorecard.  If you have your own game in your foursome (most do) please use a second scorecard.

3.            Please add the scores on your scorecard.  It gives us a quick way to check if any mistakes have been made.

4.            If you pick up on a hole, please enter the score you most likely would have gotten and place an ‘X’ next to it.   Do NOT automatically put your adjusted GHIN score down, we will make that adjustment when we enter the scores to GHIN.

5.            Make sure you turn in your card.  It seems every week, we have to disqualify a golfer because we have no scorecard for them.  If you want your score to count on Wednesdays (very important if you are on a league team) and you play early or with guests, please leave your card in the scorecard box on the Club Room desk.  Remember, USGA requires you to enter ALL scores, so if you leave the card in the box, it will get entered.

6.            Golf is not a game of ‘gimmies’.  Please putt out all putts.  Even the pros occasionally miss a 2 footer.
